Dear Kim and the Welwyn family,
I would like to express my sincere love and appreciation for every member of the Welwyn family. Welwyn is not only the place where I have learned to ride, it is where I found by best friend, Casey. The care and attention that you have given my horse is immeasurable, and I have found a second home in the barn.
As you know, I will begin my first full semester of college in the fall. Unlike so many students, I will not be moving away from the Hudson Valley, and I will be commuting to all classes. There were many reasons why I chose this path, and one was the devotion that I have to my horse. I didn’t want to leave her behind for the next four years of my life. I have always tried to think about the next step, and she has always found a place in my plans. So, please read the next few paragraphs with this in mind.
As we recently discussed, Casey and I will not be focused on competing in the HVHJA this year. Since show jumping would put stress on her hocks, and she would need frequent injections, I have decided against it. She is getting older, and I don’t think it would be fair to put that kind of pressure on her. Obviously, we both love jumping, so I look forward to enjoying it on a casual level.
As you know, college tuition is not cheap. Although I have received a few significant scholarships, there is still a decent price tag on education. In addition, as a commuter, I will need to purchase my own vehicle this summer. I’m not considering student loans; therefore, I have to make a few changes in my life.
Since my family moved out to our farm, we have built a large paddock and purchased a high-quality run-in shed. This was originally intended for Casey’s eventual retirement, as I have always dreamed of having her home.  HOWEVER, with these recent developments, my family has decided to move her home at the beginning of May. We love Welwyn so much, but I have always wanted to develop a deeper relationship with Casey that cannot be achieved without taking full responsibility for her care. On Monday, we will be visiting a very sweet miniature donkey, in effort to locate a buddy for Casey which will provide her with great companionship.
I want to maintain our positive relationship with the Welwyn family. I look forward to trailering my horse for lessons with you and Tina, throughout the year, and showing on occasion.
As per your request, I have notified you at the beginning of the month before we will be taking her home. In the time that passes before then, I would love to spend extra time at the barn and learn the details of Casey’s feed routine and general schedule. I have a great interest in horsemanship, and I know this lifestyle brings new lessons every day.
    Thank you for everything! Hugs!!
    Sincerely,  Erin Forbes
